Choosing the perfect laptop for college is a choice that isn't to be taken lightly. The available brands, sizes, warranty packages, and prices can leave parents and their young adults scratching their heads in confusion. Its important to educate yourself on what the difference is between getting a quality laptop, and unnecessarily separating you, from your hard earned money. Lets take a look:
1) First consider what the laptop will be used for. Is the student going to be using the laptop for website design? Will their course of study require primarily internet usage, or a variety of modern software to meet their homework demands? Is it going to be used for designing websites, software, or database creation, etc? Keep reading as we will attempt to answer these questions in our summary. Lets ask a few more questions before we decide though.
2) Perhaps their course of study will require a large variety of programs to be run at the same time, in order to complete their daily projects (IE. Word processing, spreadsheet usage, website design/editing software). We will touch on this in the summary also, but keep the term RAM, or memory in mind: Multiple applications run at the same time will need extra RAM, to keep the college student's laptop running smoothly - without any hiccups, or system crashes.
3) Picking a laptop for college students is no different in many ways than how you would choose a laptop for yourself. Will it mainly sit on a desk, and get used in their dorm room/home? Or are they going to make it their primary study tool and take it everywhere they go? This will make the overall size of the unit, and attached monitor important. When choosing laptops for college students this become an important factor. You don't want them to end up dropping this mildly expensive investment on the ground, when they're in hurry, going from class to class.
4) MONEY is not the most important factor to consider. As technology improves in leaps and bounds every year that goes by, the customer's choices, and costs become less. But we do have to find a happy, acceptable medium between all the points we have brought to light so far.
What to consider when searching for the best laptop for college students?: 1) Desired usage. 2) The overall RAM/Memory requirement your student's laptop will need. 3) Where the laptop will be used (so we can consider the size/weight, and monitor size. 4) Finding a happy medium between these factors, so we can decide on an appropriate price.
There are many schools of thought regarding the advantages over buying a PC vs. buying Apple's Macintosh. The old school of thought regarding Macs was that they were strictly a designer's tool. They are know for their iron-clad resistance to viruses, loads of free software that come standard, trendy looks, and easy learning curve. Many critics harped on their lack of current, real world office software, which often drove those seeking something to suit their word processing, and database creation needs to PC's.
These days, Apple offers laptops for college students, and their parents, a platform that includes all the Mac features of the past, with Microsoft office software installed. An entry level Mac laptop starts at $1000 dollars, so the choice to buy a Mac is easy!
