Edit Awesome Videos With Your Laptop In College

I'm what you would refer to as an avid amateur film maker. I simply love making videos with my laptop in college - my dell isn't just for homework you know! Often times me and my friend will shoot some footage in the dorm, with my web-cam, then use a free codec to convert to HD and send it to people on campus. My friend Rog suggested we just start hosting them on a social media networking site, instead of emailing to a hundred different people. This sounded like it wouldn't be a bad idea; a lot of our videos were sort of "promotions" for dorm parties that we held weekly - trying to get more people interested in attending.

While my roommates criticize my intentions - I bought my laptop for college, so I could edit videos and play tunes...LOUD! So I figured me and my friends would use it as a central editor and up-loader, since I did all my homework in class and wouldn't be using it much at the dorm. We had the technical equipment out of the way, now it was on to finding a spot to host the vids

There are more sites out there in cyberspace that allow you to host videos...than I can count on my fingers and toes! With so many choices we had to examine each site's features and ease of use, to see which illustrious host would earn the coveted crown!

  1. >Vimeo - They offer HD embedding with their monthly memberships. Free services include: well defined categories, groups of similar interests (party time!), several channel options, and 1280x720 HD viewing. Plus I could upload from anywhere...maybe with my laptop in college lectures! - Looking good with this one.
  2. >Viddler - Gotta say: The name is a little cheezy, but hey...I'll overlook that one. They have a similar interface to Vimeo, offer HD Embedding for a monthly fee (which my friends and I agreed to share) and they offer profit sharing if you place some of their advertiser messages in your videos.
  3. >Veoh - This one was going to be an option, then I got about a dozen pop ups before I could click to find any information, so they're OUT!

Having a laptop for college, or university is a must. When you can use it to edit and upload movies to promote your dorm festivities, then your investment just became even more worthwhile! My friends and I are still undecided about which site to use. We know for sure Youtube, or the trendy Facebook isn't in the mix - they simply don't offer the protection we want. I mean, yeah...the vids are going to be publicly viewed, but we don't want someone downloading it, and making our videos an introduction to porn videos or something like that! People do some creepy stuff when they take your stuff.

We will definitely choose carefully. We really want a site that can convert to, and embed in HD, in case my laptop for college has any trouble. Having a laptop in college can be handy, but if it breaks down and we have to use another laptop, or PC...or a public computer - our chosen host has to be able to deliver the goods!

Internet Threats Defined: Protect Your Laptop In College

Spyware, malware and viruses can put a damper on your homework and research efforts.

  1. * Malware and spyware: Both collect personal information, browsing habits, trigger pop ups and install additional items.
  2. * Virus: Viruses do several harmful things to your computer, and can control your laptop from a remote location.

Make Your Laptop For College Internet Safe

You spent good money on your laptop for college...why risk costly damage by ignoring the very things that can compromise it? Especially with all of the social networking sites we all visit; like Twitter and Facebook. Don't ever put anything private on these, or any other pages - nothing is truly private on the net! Aside from not posting personal information, here are a few things to keep in mind to protect you further.

Unprotected wireless connections provides access to your laptop in college, or any other area you have WiFi. Since they are "unprotected", this should be obvious to anyone - however many students will order things from Ebay, or order movies, and accessories without realizing anyone with in range can access their data - and do so with limited computer knowledge! > Hacker sites give tips on how to do unsavory things to anyone who can read.

Never, ever save your personal data, credit, or banking information on any website. Some are secure...but why risk being the victim? Your laptop for college is yours, and so is your credit! Don't risk losing one, or both due to a risky decision.

Conclusion

Common sense is all that's needed for personal information...and your laptop in college! You really just need to realize that although the internet makes your life more convenient, it also makes it easier for scam artists and fraud experts to steal your personal information, or hijack your laptop for college studies - if you want to be able to finish your assignments at your dorm, instead of going to the comp lab...follow our advice!

Anti Virus For College Laptop

McAfee Virus Protection For Your Laptop In College

McAfee has released an update on their AntiVirus Plus line for 2010, which has improved performance, along with a faster scanning interface. Students seeking to buy, or protect their laptop for college use, will definitely like the protection offered by this years improvements.

Antivirus Plus 2010 Overview

McAfee insists this year's model is ten times faster than last year's model, even though they have integrated a two-way personal firewall into the mix with this version. We set out to test their claim, to see how it would perform on a laptop in college dorm environments.

Installation Download

Our student tester James used his laptop for college design courses to download the product; and was surprised the 90MB download completed super-quick with McAfee's on-site download manager. The inexpensive, yet robust system took just 5 minutes to install after the files downloaded, and even more to his surprise - required no system restart. He immediately turned to look at the updated interface.

Updated Interface in 2010

McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2010 has revamped their interface, and James was quick to comment on how slick it was - compared to the "functional" 2009 look. AntiVirus Plus recognizes protecting a laptop in college, means looking cool while you're doing it! There is no more useless information displayed, as the 2010 release seeks to give you information on a "need to know" basis.

Ability To Catch Viruses

We sent our virus "guru" over to James' house to test McAfee's 2010 version's ability to capture threats. James told him the protection suite had mainly ran, and updated itself quietly in the background of his laptop for college use. He wasn't sure if anything was being detected or not, so our "guru" got to work. He downloaded a couple of known virus files from an IT security forum (these files are used to test firewall effectiveness) and both were immediately quarantined.

Conclusion

If you use a laptop in college, and need something that protects - while staying in the background, out of your way...McAfee Antivirus Plus 2010 will do the job just fine. It catches the bad stuff, and lets your laptop get the job done - with no hiccups. Highly recommended!
